Founded in 2004, pdvWireless is led by a senior management team that has a proven track record. Our Chairman, Brian McAuley, and CEO, Morgan O'Brien, were the co-founders of Nextel Communications and have over 60 years of combined experience in telecom operations and in successfully developing regulatory driven spectrum initiatives to address the unmet wireless communications needs of businesses.

In September 2014 PDV acquired Sprint Corporation’s 900 MHz spectrum, which had been used to operate Nextel’s iDEN network. With its purchase, pdvWireless became the largest holder with a nationwide footprint of licenses in this band (896-901/935-940 MHz). Many of the licensees in this 900 MHz band are critical infrastructure entities such as utilities and energy companies, as well as airlines, major manufacturers, municipal transportation and entities offering commercial services on Specialized Mobile Radio (SMR) licenses.

In an effort to improve spectrum efficiency and to enable Critical Infrastructure Industries access to next-generation broadband services, PDV with the Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA) jointly filed a Petition for Rulemaking with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on November 17, 2014, which the FCC placed on Public Notice on November 26, 2014. In August 2017, the FCC issued a Notice of Inquiry, or NOI, related to our Joint Petition and other proposals involving the 900MHz band. In the NOI, the FCC announced that it had commenced a proceeding to examine whether it would be in the public interest to change the existing rules governing the 900 MHz band to enable increased access to spectrum, improved spectrum efficiency and expanded flexibility for a variety of potential uses and applications, including broadband and other advanced technologies and services. PDV and EWA’s comments, reply comments and other filings in this proceeding can be accessed here.
